Vampire Diaries Scoop: Seven Things You’re Dying to Know…

7. Alaric May be Safe… for Now: “Kevin and I both feel so strongly that that character is a man,” Plec explains. “He’s got a maturity. He’s got gravitas. He’s a really important character to have on the show and, because his own personal journey kind of arced out with Isobel’s storyline at the end of last season, we’re just biding our time and waiting for the moment to start his new journey. And we’ve promised him that it will happen and we can’t wait to get into it.”

Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec to The TV Chick: “2.06 is fun.”

There’s so much story so far this season. Are you confident it will take you through 22 episodes?

KW: Yes. I mean, we are already into the third season. We are actually trying to figure out the breaking point. Where are we going to stop at the end of this season? We kind of know where our season finale. We know what we want the last — I know a couple of the cliffhangers already, at least a lot of them, and I’m trying to figure out “where do I stop?” It’s so much fun. It’s a hard show to write. There’s a lot of mythology. I like slowing it down for the relationship stuff. So you don’t know how far we’re going to get.

Official photos from NYCC, Katherine’s origin revealed, new interviews & videos

The Warner Brothers released some official shots from New York Comic Con a few days ago. You can see some below and click here for the rest.

Fancast had a nice chat with executive producers Julie and Kevin. They talk about Katherine’s original story, upcoming flashbacks and season 2 finale (yay!). Read the entire story at Fancast.

Adds exec producer Kevin Williamson, “We go back in time to show a lot about how Katherine (played by Nina Dobrev) came to become who she was. We answer a lot of questions” – including a few burning ones concerning her ties to the Petrova clan, her beginnings as a bloodsucker, and why she’s an undead ringer for Elena.

The cast also chatted to IO9. They discuss their characters, the show in general. Check out an excerpt below and head over to IO9 to read the rest of the article (thanks, @SYcinetwilove!).

McQueen said Jeremy wants “in” and has valuable information. He may have a new, “dabbling” love interest, as yet unwritten — but it could be someone that we know. Meanwhile, Roerig said Matt may learn the truth about what’s happening in Mystic Falls — but it won’t be from anyone you’d expect.

The 5 best Vampire Diaries spoilers from NY Comic Con

Although we’ve heard about Katherine since nearly the beginning of the show, her exact backstory is still a giant mystery. But not for long. “[The ninth episode is] an origin tale – we go back in time and show how Katherine became who she is,” Kevin reveals. “We answer a lot of questions, we get into the Petrova line of it all. We flashback to 1492 Bulgaria, London, Romania. We show how she started and why she was necessary to the story of the vampires.”

But that won’t be the only time traveling season two serves up. “We have four [flashbacks] planned,” Kevin adds. And by Thanksgiving, fans will know exactly why Katherine returned to Mystic Falls thanks to a shocking moment akin to Damon’s tomb reveal in season one. “That all explodes over the next four episodes,” Julie teases.

Have we seen the last of John Gilbert? John Gilbert will be back! “There’s too much potential there – there’s great story left there to mine. He’s Elena’s father!”

Will Jeremy and Katherine have scenes together? Yes, Jeremy and Katherine are about to have a big face-off in the next few episodes.

Who might make a comeback? Lexi.

@popwrap: Biggest spoiler from press room: episode eight is Katherine’s backstory. We go to Romania, circa 1492.

Also, Zap2it had a wonderful chat with the cast during Comic Con. Check out an excerpt below and the rest of the article is at their site:

Jenna and Katherine will meet again very, very soon. “It’s a weird thing with Jenna because she’s got a special relationship with Elena, and we’ve seen that be tested again and again in the first season, and now Katherine’s just going to throw something else into the mix,” says Canning. “She’s like, ‘What’s going on with my niece?’ There’s already things she’s worried that Elena’s not telling her, like why are you making out with Damon on the porch, so that’s just going to intensify it and cause some major trust issues.”

Plus, a WPIX interview round. They got a chance to talk to Kat, Steven, Sara, Matt, Kevin and Julie. Thanks to Vampire Diaries Online for bringing this to our attention! Play the video chat with Steven and Julie below and go to their site to see the other two.

The TV Chick talks to Vampire Diaries producers: “It’s a huge journey.”

The Vampire Diaries returns tonight! The sizzling, action-packed, full of crazy twists second season premiere will leave you gasping at your television. Or at the very least, it left me doing that. I could not be happier that this show is back. I love being transported week after week into the mysterious Mystic Falls, and let’s be honest, the Salvatore Brothers are quite eye-pleasing. I recently had the chance to catch up with the cast and producers of the show. Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, the absolutely brilliant (and super sweet) Executive Producers had a lot to say about the upcoming season, werewolves and flashback episodes.

What can we expect in Mystic Falls in the upcoming season?

Kevin Williamson: Katherine being back in Mystic Falls is a bit of a game changer for the show. How is this going to affect Damon and Stefan in terms of Katherine now being back in town? And it’s so hard to talk about it without giving anything away. Everything’s a surprise. She comes back and pretty much stated why she was back. It will be fun to sort of watch that play out. If you watched our show in the past, you know there’s always more than one reason someone’s there and some of the motives of our characters. It’s a huge journey.

IGN interview with Nina: “The premiere is going to be shocking and huge and exciting.”

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. This is IGN. We appeal to guy’s stuff. But I’m here to tell you, if you haven’t been watching, The Vampire Diaries is a really cool show. What looked like a Twilight clone when it first began quickly evolved into a complex, layered story with a ton of surprising twists and turns and a very detailed and involving mythology.

Playing not one but two key components to that mythology is Nina Dobrev. The actress has the lead role as the human Elena, but also has had the opportunity to play Katherine, the evil vampire who started the whole story by turning brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) into vampires in 1864. Katherine had previously appeared only in flashbacks, until the shocking Season 1 finale revealed she had returned to the town of Mystic Falls – and was quickly up to her old, bloody tricks.

I had the opportunity to speak to Dobrev about the new season ofVampire Diaries, which premieres this Thursday, and the challenges and rewards of playing two characters simultaneously.

IGN TV: So suffice to say, Katherine is going to be stirring up a lot of trouble as we begin Season 2?

Nina Dobrev: Yes, Katherine is most definitely back. She’s back and she’s going to wreak havoc. The thing about Katherine is she’s so spontaneous and unexpected. You can’t really get into her mind to figure out what she’s up to, because if she doesn’t want you to know, you’re not going to find out. She does everything for her own amusement and own entertainment. Screwing with people and messing with their minds and playing with them is the most fun for someone who’s been on the earth for however many hundred years. You get bored of the regular grind, so why not come back and visit and ex or two, and a new girlfriend, and stir up the pot?

Ian and Michael discuss TVD: “The second season is our defining moment.”

In The CW’s hit drama The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder plays Damon Salvatore, the older and far more dangerous of the vampire brothers who share a long and bitter history that is closely connected to their hometown of Mystic Falls. In season 2 of the series, Michael Trevino’s character, the volatile Taylor Lockwood, will be giving bad-boy Damon a run for his money in the villain department, as his more primal werewolf side makes an appearance.

During an interview to promote the new season of their popular show, co-stars Ian Somerhalder and Michael Trevino hinted at what’s coming up for their characters and what fans can look forward to.

Question: Ian, what hints can you give about what’s coming up for Damon in season 2?

Ian: I do know that when Damon finds out that it was not Elena that he kissed, he’s going to blow his top. He’s not going to be very happy about it. Also, by virtue of the fact that there are other supernatural elements coming to town, Damon is going to have to make a decision and figure out whether he can work with Stefan to protect what they love, their way of life and all the things that come with it.

Vampire Diaries cast filming first season 2 flashbacks + an extra on his set experience

Vampire Stalkers was on set while filming was taking place this Friday. As the crew set up at what is called the Old Lockwood Manor, we wondered how much we would see. I can tell you that they set up for what looked like a party scene. They filmed inside and outside. Beautiful lanterns and flowers along the banisters set the scene. We got really excited once they started pulling in the horse trailers. Unfortunately, it began to light and rain, so we didn’t stick it out as long as usual but we had an extra that was filming that night inside, so we still hoped for a few details.
You can read the rest of the article as well as Danny Craig‘s experience at Vampire Stalkers. Plus, scroll down for more photos.

New Vampire Diaries spoilers from The Ausiello Files and Watch With Kristin

Question: I just bought the first season of Vampire Diaries and watched every episode back-to-back. Can you help out a new (sleep-deprived) fan with any season 2 spoilers that may have popped up since Comic-Con? —Brandon
At Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards, Katerina Graham told us that Bonnie will become “even less tolerant” of the vampires this season. “She is going to become quite the power player among the supernatural [set]. I think she is going to be noticed by some of the big baddies this season. She is gaining powers rapidly this season, so I encourage all the villains and the bad boyfriends to stay clear of the Bennett witch!” – The Ausiello Files

Shane in Pittsburgh, Pa.: Will Jenna finally find out the truth about vampires on The Vampire Diaries?
Nope, you can expect Aunt Jenna to remain blissfully unaware of the supernatural happenings in Mystic Falls, at least for now. How can that be when she was in the house while Katherine was chopping off Uncle John’s fingers and Jeremy was upstairs downing blood and pills? Executive producer Julie Plec tells us, “We’ll learn in the first episode that she was actually out talking to the fire marshal. Katherine actually lured Jenna out of the house before all the craziness happened.” Finger slicing aside, that Katherine seems like a fine young lady, no?
