For actor Ian Somerhalder, a double dose of weird

Every actor on the planet probably envies Ian Somerhalder.

Well, maybe not George Clooney. But most of the rest of them.

Somerhalder co-stars on the CW series “The Vampire Diaries,” and he will revisit “Lost” several times during its upcoming sixth and final season. On the film front, he has wrapped the indie comedy “How To Make Love to a Woman” with Krysten Ritter and Jenna Jameson, and, if all goes according to plan, will shoot a psychological thriller entitled “Cradlewood” this spring.

“It’s such a great moment in time for me,” Somerhalder said, speaking by telephone from the “Vampire Diaries” set in Atlanta. “It’s very cool. I’m very lucky, very grateful. As far as ‘Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Lost,’ there’s such great storytelling going on on both shows, and they’re such amazing experiences. I’m just really happy to be a part of them.”

Interview: Paul Wesley is Stefan Salvatore in THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

In the popular CW television series The Vampire Diaries, Paul Wesley stars as Stefan Salvatore, a vampire struggling to live at peace with human beings. In love with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), a young woman with a striking and undeniable resemblance to the villainous Katherine, who turned the Salvatore brothers both into vampires, Stefan is compelled to protect Elena from the things that lurk in the shadows.

During the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Paul Wesley talked about how much he enjoys wearing fangs and getting to work with the cast on the series.

Q: Do you talk to the producers about aspects of the character you’d like to see on The Vampire Diaries?

Paul: Yes, absolutely. As a matter of fact, when we get the scripts, we have a relationship where we can call them and say, “Why do I do this?” Julie and Kevin write our characters for us and, the way that we play our characters, they’ll see something and go, “Oh, I like that smile there,” or “I like Stefan sort of sinister,” and they start writing more of that. They cater to it and, in a sense, mold it to your liking.

Q: What powers of Stefan’s do you wish you had?

Paul: I have every power that he has, he just has it tenfold. Everything that he has is heightened.

Second Annual CW Awards

Every year when awards season rolls around, we get bummed that some of the shows we enjoy the most—the ones on the CW—aren’t even without shouting distance of a nomination, much less a trophy.

So last year we decided to something about it and invented the totally unofficial and totally fun CW Awards, which honors the great acting and writing specific to that network (hush, haters), and this year we’re at it again.

Did your favorite actor, actress, series or show runner get a nod? Jump inside to see the nominations for yourself, and then vote to decide which of these underappreciated talents should win a highly pretigious (albeit mostly imaginary) WWK CW Award!
