Katerina Graham, resident teen witch of The Vampire Diaries, sat down with Seventeen to chat about her show/real-life bestie Elena (aka our April cover girl Nina Dobrev), getting great bargains, and the hot guys of Mystic Falls.
17: As your character Bonnie, you’re discovering new powers in each episode. Have you had your own amazing discovery in life?
Katerina Graham: I think it came this year when I was really able to connect with the fans, and I realized that impact that someone in the industry — whether you’re an actor or an artist — can have. I have an e-mail ( katgrahammusic@gmail.com) that’s set up just for the fans where they write me, and I reply back to every single one of them personally. I got letters everywhere from Romania to Brazil to Japan, and that’s really when I realized that I’m part of something so big and I can do so much with what I’ve been given. I’ve always been involved with charities and things like that, but when I started communicating with the fans and hearing their stories about the lives they lead, it really made an impact on me.
17: How are you most like Bonnie?
KG: I’m really like Bonnie in terms of the relationship she has with her friends. She’s protective over her friend Elena, and the real-life relationship between Nina [Dobrev] and myself is the same; I would do anything for her, we’re really close. Bonnie is caring, and she’s compassionate, and she’s very much like me in that way.
17: How are you different from Bonnie?
KG: We have different style. Bonnie has this great style, it’s very hippy/earthy, and I’m more like a high-fashion city girl. I’m really into platforms, she’s really into flats. She’s also into embroidered shirts — which I love — but Bonnie’s are more of an earthy version. I like to go for the leggings and baggy tank top. I’m more like a hipster.
17: What’s the place that is your one go-to for bargain shopping?
KG: It’s Jet Rag [in Los Angeles]. They have $1 Sundays, so you can go there and scour, and everything’s a dollar. I’ve even worn stuff I’ve gotten for $1 there on the red carpet.
17: If you personally were to date one of the characters on the show, which one would it be?
KG: It’s so weird because we’re all brothers and sisters [in real life], so I can’t imagine dating anyone in our cast, but I am Team Salvatore all the way!
17: Who would you say is the funniest person in the cast?
KG: Steve McQueen and I share that throne. I think we’re both goofballs.
17: Who’s the most serious?
KG: Paul Wesley for sure. He’s so serious!
17: Who has the best hair?
KG: I love Nina’s hair because she’s got this really shiny, gorgeous hair, and Candice has a very full, blonde head of hair…I’m going to tie them for best hair!
Catch Katerina Graham on The Vampire Diaries, Thursdays 8/7c on the CW.
The interview also contains a video of Kat shopping, that we previously posted.

Katerina seems like a cool person. From their behavior and attitude in other interviews, I think Kat and Steven are attracted to one another.
It is a shame because Boremy is so awful on-screen. I don’t see the appeal or understand the popularity with this ship. Bonnie and Jeremy are not compatible age-wise or personality-wise. Bonnie needs a different kind of man to increase her character development and Jeremy is too immature, self-absorbed, and boyish for her. I always feel the imbalance and sibling vibes with the occasional odd, forced moment of sexual tension. They tore Jyler down which had natural chemistry to build-up a connection and dynamic with Bonnie that does not feel organic or true to the characters. It goes against continuity and characterization. The overt looks of lust feel like of creepy, contrived, and unnatural. Their scenes are so painfully overacted and awkward but they are staring to leer at each other more with over the top eye expression so some people think that is chemistry. No healthy or mature 18 yr old would go after a 16 yr old boy who is also her best friend’s little brother. The Bonnie I came to love was strong, intense, maternal, and very mature. It is like seeing a kid with a young woman trying to squeeze sexual tension when the vibes are not naturally present.
It is weird because I sense chemistry between them off-screen. Boremy just makes me sick. Bonnie deserves better. I enjoy her witch storyline outside of Jeremy’s involvement. She and Luka were equals with believable and natural chemistry but they are going to turn Luka into a villian so she can run to incompatible Jeremy. I know a lot of people dislike Boremy but are afraid to speak up. Speak up,so this can end soon.
